Safety Awareness Month Message:

September is recognized across the state of Georgia as Safety Awareness Month. During this time, we are conducting intruder, lockdown and other safety drills on our school campuses. In Decatur County Schools, we take this opportunity to educate and equip our students to respond quickly and safely to any and all emergency situations. Safety is and will always be our number one priority in Decatur County Schools.

Monday we celebrated Georgia Reads Day in the library! Students enjoyed listening to The Magician’s Hat by Georgia native and Super Bowl Champion, Malcolm Mitchell—a story all about the magic of books and how they can inspire dreams.

After the story, our students tapped into their creativity by designing their own book covers that showed what they want to do or be when they grow up. From future teachers and athletes to community helpers and artists, their imaginations were shining bright!

We are so proud of their big dreams and the stories they are beginning to write for their own futures.

We are so proud of all our Kindergarten engineers. Creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration were on full display during the STEAM Kindergarten paper chain challenge! Students worked in teams using a single piece of paper, scissors, glue, and tape to build the longest paper chain. Their planning and problem-solving skills were incredible! Congratulations to Mrs. Strickland’s students for building the longest paper chain which measured a total of 47 feet!

As a culminating task for Benchmark Unit 1, students in Mrs. Wynn's class collaborated to gather facts about an animal they wanted to represent and its habitat. They then created a postcard to share this information with a friend.

After reading Penguin Moves Out of the Antarctic, students were able to “visit” penguins in their natural habitat and see their world come to life right before their eyes. They slipped on VR headsets and stepped right into the penguins' icy world. What an unforgettable way to connect reading to reading to the real world and make learning an adventure.

☀️ Biscuits for the Best at West Bainbridge Primary!

Decatur County Schools Superintendent, our district office directors, and our friends at SunStop were thrilled to greet educators this morning with a sunny breakfast sponsored by SunStop—and yes, even Sunny the mascot joined in on the fun! 🎉

“Biscuits for the Best” is one of our favorite ways to show appreciation for the incredible educators who pour their hearts into our students each day. A warm breakfast and a friendly smile are just small tokens of gratitude, but they carry a big message: you are valued, you are supported, and you are the BEST. 💛

Thank you, educators—you make the difference every single day.

Our 2nd graders are growing their math skills! They practiced making arrays to show repeated addition and discover counting patterns. It was exciting to see them connect math concepts in a hands-on way and realize how arrays make addition (and even multiplication!) easier to understand.

Way to go, 2nd grade mathematicians!
